Aefintyr observations week of May 8th

Plants The Hepatica have almost all lost their petals and the Rue Anemone and Bellwort are taking over the forest floor. On 5/13 I noticed Pussytoes blooming for the first time this year. The Bloodroot and Wild Ginger are still blooming. I also found some Jack in the Pulpit, Violets, Canada Anemone, Gooseberry and a few other flowers. There is also a small tree that has beautiful white flowers. Several types of fern are out and have grown several inches in a week. The trees are leafing out. Camping the Ostraya Concept August 12th and 13th 2022

20220812 I planned at trip for Chris and I to check out a newly purchased glamping tent and the Ostraya campsite. Before I open things up I want to make sure the experiences are vetted and opportunities for improvement are considered. We headed down after work on a Friday. It was supposed to rain but ended up being a nice cool night, partly cloudy night with little wind. We decided to go trout fishing. Checked out a few spots, mainly the north branch, and caught a few. Chris caught an eater, but it got off before it was landed. The banks were very thick with plants. Lots of beautiful flowers and birds, lovely smells too. In one spot there was a wonderful aroma of mint. When we arrived back at the Ostraya camp the sun was setting. I cooked some potatoes and beef franks with a little MSR backpacking stove and we had a nice hot meal. We made a fire for the first time in the Ostraya firepit that my mother-in-law helped me build. Aefintyr observations week of May 1st, 2022

Temps have been consistently above freezing at night. Loving the long days. Haven't looked at the sky much this winter. Noticed in the early night that the big dipper is almost on top of me and Orion is sinking into the horizon. Green is starting to appear most notably on the ground with the grasses and plants sprouting. A few shrubs have leaves. At the beginning of the week, the forest, from a distance still looks like fall and winter, mostly grey, brown and white. Towards the end of the week, specks of color appeared in the canopy. On Tuesday 5/3 I found anemone, blood root and wild ginger first time for the season. Some of the blood root's petals had fallen off. I bumped one and the petals fell off... fragile apparently! The hepatica is amazing and all over. Many shades of purple and white. I continue to hear woodpeckers drumming and the barred owl hoot. Turkeys too. I hear a bunch of other birds just need to learn their calls so I can identify them. I found a ...
